BARKADAan Nen Kristo
Man is born into this world not as individual devoid of any relation or connection with others, but as an individual whose hierachical need is to be linked wit other people, with creation and with God.
We see this reality of man’s need for inter-connectedness in our young people’s liking for pakikisama. Young people love to feeel a sense of belonging: to a clique, to a group to a barkadhan. And surely, one of the reasons why, is they gain something from thi connection, from this belonging. However, there is a need to help them look closely into these relationships: What kind of communities do they belong to? How do they relate in these communities? How far do they go to reach out to each other in sharing their giftedness? Is Jesus the object of their being together?
For the Archdiocesan Youth Ministry of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan, there is one thing clear. A program must be developed to lead the youth to grow in a community according to the image of Christ, drawing them to a responsible participation in the life ministry and work of the entire Catholic Faith community and eventually making them committed and effective agents of change in the Church and society. Hence, the Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate Committee establishes BARKADAan Nen Kristo, a Youth Serving Youth Program.
The Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate. Just like any ministry of the Church, the Youth Apostolate is founded on friendship … on a deeper relationship of the Young with Jesus, the Emmanuel which means “God is with us”. (Mt. 1, 18-25). He is a BARKADA who reaches out to everyone and stays with them through thick and thin as they journey in life. (Luke 2, 13-35). He even expressed before Hi diciple a He empowered them, “And behold, I am with you until the end of the age” (Mt. 28, 16-20) He is also a BARKADA who can offer His very life for His friends, for “no one has greaterlove that this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (Jn 15,1-17)
Just as God journeys with us in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, our trusted and faithful BARKADA, so too, the Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate Committee (AYAC) of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan, Pangasinan, Philippines continues her journey with the Pangasinene youth through the BARKADan Nen Kristo.
